2015 Writing Workshops from Janis Mackay
Creative writing tutor Janis Mackay recently contacted us to say that she is running lots of creative writing workshops next year. We know our members have really enjoyed the times Janis has visited WLW so we thought we would share some details about the workshops here. They split into five different categories:
- One Year Novel Writing Course
- One Day Short Story Workshops
- One Day Writing Workshops
- Writing Workshop for Children
- One Day Creative Writing Workshops for Adults wishing to Write for Children.
You can find more information about Janis’ workshops by downloading her flyer here or by clicking below.
One Year Novel Writing Course
The novel writing course will be a mixed of monthly workshops focusing on different elements of novel writing such as conflict, dialogue etc and discussion about each person’s work in progress. This will include receiving feedback. It is hoped that students will finish with a completed first draft of a novel. To get the most from this course students should be able to devote at least ten hours writing time to their novel per week in addition to the Saturday workshops. The novel writing course will have no more than eight students. The course fee is £550 and starts on the 17th of January. To apply please send an email to janis@janismackay.com saying why you want to do this course.
One Day Short Story Workshops
These five one day workshops can be taken as individual workshops or a series of five. Each will focus on a different element of short story writing such as love, horror etc. The courses are held in central Edinburgh between 10am – 5pm. They cost £60 each or £250 for all five.
Writing Workshop for Children
If you are between 8 – 15 and enjoy writing stories – or would like to enjoy it more – come along for these afternoon workshops held at the Scottish Storytelling Centre on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. We will play with finding story ideas and then start writing a novel! Email janis@janismackay.com to book a place. Just bring pen, paper and £20. The First workshop will take place on Saturday 25th April from 2 – 4pm with a second taking place on Saturday 26th September, also from 2 – 4pm.
