This Week’s News

WLW Meeting 17/03/2015The most exciting piece of news we have is that on the 28th of April Eric‘s first novel A Clear Solution will be published. Expect a big party that day!

Today we received our new business cards. Don’t they look pretty!

In only a few days time it’ll be the next West Lothian Write, the 20th of March to be precise. Starting at 7pm, it is a great night with lots of new writing from across West Lothian.

The following day some of Chris’ art work, along with other pieces from the Livingston Art Association will be displayed at Strathbrock Church Hall between 11am and 3pm. You can also see them on Sunday between 12pm and 3pm.

Finally our AGM will take place on the 14th of April. Stephen explained what would happen and hinted at a couple of our upcoming projects!

Last time we mentioned that FutureLearn were soon going to be re-running there Start Fiction Writing course on the 27th of April. Well just over a month later, on the 8th of June, FutureLearn are running a course called How to Write Your First Song. If this is something you are interested in then check it out.

This Week’s Writing

  • The Cone of Doom – the latest part of Eric‘s novel. Hazel is asked to come to the police station to make a statement.
  • Paradise Park and Family Photo – two pieces of micro fiction from Stephen. Paradise Park was only 50 words long while Family Photo was slightly longer at 99 words.

An Exercise

As we didn’t have that many pieces of writing this week we finished the evening with a quick exercise. Using a couple of Chris’ pictures as inspiration we asked everyone at the meeting to write for five minutes. We got everything from a family argument to mysterious bridges via descriptions of nature and dying flowers.
