October 16, 2014 by 1 Comment

This week saw a turn out of five people for one of our more passionate meetings! It is amazing what good writing does to you! First however, we need to talk about the news:

This Week’s News

WLW Meeting 14/10/2014Next week is our Halloween event. As you all know by now, please bring with you up to 500 words on Halloween whether that is straight out horror, a nostalgic view of Trick or Treating or something totally different. We can’t wait to hear your writing. Also you’ll need to think up a spooky name for yourself. To find out why, you’ll have to come to the next meeting

On a similar theme the Scottish Book Trust’s 50 Word Fiction competition theme this month is Ghost. So if you are stuck for inspiration for our next meeting why not start there!

A week on Saturday (the 25th of October) Valerie’s workshop Nine Months to Make a Book will be starting at the Howden Park Centre. Check out its page on our website for more information.

The website Grammarly conducted a survey of over 3000 participants to find the answer to the question Which gender has the better writersThey pulled together the results into this, very long, info graph. If you’d like more information about the study or wanting to find out more about Grammarly and their Grammar Checker then check out their website.

Finally, as many of you may know West Lothian Council have recently announced they will have to make cuts of over £30 million pounds over the next three years. We at WLW wanted to ensure our members that these cuts will not effect the day to day running of WLW. Whatever happens we’ll still be here doing our writing thing.

West Lothian Council are asking for people’s feedback on where the cuts should be made. If you have a view you can give it here.

This Week’s Writing

  • The Gift, Yuletide Joy, Bargain Gift Bargain and The Gift – four poems by Anne all inspired by gift giving at Christmas.
  • Remembering the Sand – a piece of Flash Fiction by Stephen. Alec goes to work in his Grandfather’s shop in Glenbay.
  • Don Scott: The Flat Above  – the final part of Valerie’s short story about Don Scott. The Don thinks about the results of his actions.
